MusicExperienced Label Veteran to Drive Further Expansion of EMI’s Successful Global Independent Artist and Label Services Unit
New York, NY, June 3, 2010 – EMI Music has appointed Mike Harris as Executive Vice President/General Manager for EMI Label Services and Caroline Distribution, the company’s successful third party artist and label unit. Harris will lead this division on a worldwide basis from his base in New York. He will report to Dominic Pandiscia, who since 2008 has led EMI Label Services’ expansion and was recently named Executive Vice President for EMI Music Services in North America.
In his new role, Harris, who has more than 17 years of music industry experience, will take on worldwide responsibility for EMI Label Services’ fast-growing, full-service division that provides independent labels and artists with a global menu of services and access to an expanding range of revenue streams. Independent artists who work with EMI Label Services and Caroline Distribution include Slash, who last month debuted his first solo album at #3 in the US, as well as Barenaked Ladies, Broken Social Scene, The Cinematic Orchestra, Peter Gabriel, Hadouken, Heaven Shall Burn, Jet, Matt Nathanson, Raekwon, Twista, Trina and Bobby V. EMI Label Services works with independent label groups including Black Hole Recordings, Century Media, Merovingian, New State Entertainment, Secret City Records, Slip-n-Slide Records and Welk Music Group, among others.
EMI Label Services is one of the growing number of new and non-traditional business units within EMI Music Services, which also includes sales and commercial development, merchandise and other emerging revenue streams.
“Mike was invaluable in helping me define EMI Label Services’ unique blueprint and he knows what’s important to independent labels and artists. He’s the perfect guy to continue our expansion. Mike also has great relationships throughout the industry,” said Pandiscia. “He’s been a big part of building global careers for many artists and he knows what it takes to help labels excel on a worldwide stage.”
“I’m really excited to work with the growing number of artists and labels who’ve responded to EMI Label Services’ flexible approach,” said Harris. “What we offer is truly unique: a global, customized strategy and execution to support independent artists and label groups. I have worked with Dominic closely for many years. He’s built a great foundation that has really resonated with independent community, and I’m looking forward to extending our services to even more artists and labels around the world.”
Harris, who has worked closely with such artists as Norah Jones, Katy Perry, Snoop Dogg, Thirty Seconds to Mars and Anita Baker, was most recently Executive Vice President/Finance Director, Global A&R Operations, overseeing business operations for EMI’s new music function. Prior to that, Harris was Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer, New Music North America, overseeing EMI’s labels including Astralwerks, Blue Note, Capitol, Capitol Latin, Capitol Nashville, Manhattan and Virgin. Since joining EMI in 1997, Harris has held a number of leadership positions at EMI’s Capitol Music Group, Virgin Records and Blue Note Music Group. Before joining EMI, Harris worked at Relativity Records
